Why Apple Reduces iPhone Prices in India
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as part of the Union Budget 2024, reduced the basic customs duty on mobile phones, chargers and some components. The electronic manufacturing industry was demanding a reduction in customs duty. GST on imported smartphones sold in India is 18 per cent, while customs duty is levied at 22 per cent – one-fifth of this amount is basic, and a two per cent surcharge is levied on it. The surcharge, which is calculated at 10 percent of the basic customs duty, will continue.
